Yesterday I created a base particle system in Actionscript 3. It’s not fantastic quite yet and flash seems to get bogged down pretty easy. But I’d say it’s a start. I don’t have much to say about it at the moment, I can break it down if anyone wants me to, but I wanted to at least post it up. The version here has a bit of an editor built into it so you can adjust the system yourself.

Hey all, I guess I’ve been busy lately (?) because I haven’t posted anything in a long time! Election day is here and in Chicago it’s going to be pretty crazy. I’m not big into politics, but it will be interesting for sure. But, more importantly, games and coding.

Over the last 2-3 weeks I’ve been playing with some AI and building an AI driven app. It is not done or very close to it, but the basic mechanics have been implemented, tweak, and implemented again several times over. I think they are finally to where I can move on to the next level and I have decided that is going to be learning.

Today while working on an app that I’ll probably be posting up here in the next few days I had need for an actual frame rate counter of which Flash doesn’t seem to provide for us. It was a simple enough task though so I figured no big deal, I’ll just write one myself. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve done such a thing, just the first time in Actionscript. Then, I decided why not share it with the world! So, here it is with a short explanation in case anyone doesn’t understand how frame rate is calculated.

Made this little thing today in about 15 minutes, simple, but fun to play with. I should probably zip up the project here and post it, but I haven’t decided on actually doing that yet. If anyone wants it I can, but either way, here it is, fun to play with. Here’s a link to a bigger version as well, if it runs slow right click and save it and run it locally. It runs fine locally, but through your browser it may lag a little. This small one shouldn’t, but sometimes the big one does. Enjoy.

I’ve been doing Flash work like crazy lately, it’s my new craze. My last post was a little flash toy that I made, just me having fun with some different Flash drawing things and figuring out how things work. This time I’ve taken a stab at a classic remake. So this was a test of my Flash work along with figuring out the game itself.

Been messing around with flash all day today doing stuff and wanted to post up what I created. For the first time in my on and off flash usage I actually understand everything I did. I don’t know why, but flash has just been one of those things that never quite worked out for me. But today, I had that click in my mind and here’s what I came up with…
