Flash Breakout Clone

I’ve been doing Flash work like crazy lately, it’s my new craze. My last post was a little flash toy that I made, just me having fun with some different Flash drawing things and figuring out how things work. This time I’ve taken a stab at a classic remake. So this was a test of my Flash work along with figuring out the game itself.

Breakout is a simple game that’s seen countless clones, I feel no shame in being unoriginal with my remake choice. Remaking a game is something I don’t do enough actually. It’s a good exercise in reverse engineering. I love figuring out how things work as a programmer, and even more so I love retro gaming. It’s surprising that I don’t remake games more often to be honest. Maybe I’ll start now. But anyways, here’s a link to my game (it wasn’t reading the XML correct when I embedded it).

Breakout Clone

Controls:
Click to release ball at level start.
Move mouse to move paddle (it will follow the mouse position)

I plan on updating this in the future as there isn’t a lot of content to it yet. But there are 6 levels, you get 4 balls to try to beat them. They don’t really get super tough because I’m leaving room to keep expanding it. There’s surely bugs as well. If anyone wants to know about how I made it I can post that up because while most of it is pretty simple, the ball and paddle physics are actually kind of interesting. I’m still tweaking them and any suggestions are appreciated (along with bug filing), but keep an eye out for future updates if you’re looking for a good time waster.
