17 Hour Drive

Jul 26, 10:27 PM

Friday I left my little Ohio town for a drive that would last me about 17 hours. I was pretty excited, it was something to do and I’d end up somewhere new at the end of it. Where? Florida.

A drive that long brings up all sorts of interesting things, the people I encountered, the various roads I traversed, the misinterpretations I had with my GPS, the fact that my final destination wasn’t even on my GPS. I wished I had brought a camera with me because I thought it would have been interesting to do some sort of weird photo journal like on the various bathrooms I stopped at. Then we could make all these weird comparisons with BP bathrooms across the Eastern US vs McDonalds bathrooms or something.

But there would have probably been some weird legal issues (or at least awkward moments) everytime someone else was in those bathrooms when I was. Then again, that would have just been something else to add to the comparisons.

Either way, it was a pretty good drive. It gets pretty tough to decide what to listen to in the later hours of the trip. I also found out that your leg can indeed cramp up from pushing the acceleration pedal for 17 hours. Who would have thought? On top of that, my car doesn’t have air-condition (it’s broken) and 17 hours of wind in your ears causing quite the weird effect when you finally lay down to go to sleep at the end.

But, it was fun and now I’m in Florida. Kinda neat. Birthday is coming up on Wednesday though so I’ll be back in Ohio by then. Unfortunately, I don’t think that the drive back will be quite as exciting as the one down. But I will get to see Florida in the light instead of the dark (really dark).
